He first became famous because of a set of skiwear he designed for women; the ski clothes had a sleek, polished look, with fitted stretch pants. The skiwear was featured in a fashion magazine, later prompting many manufacturers to request orders from Pucci. The socialite realized that what had started as a fun endeavor could become a major career with big profits. He left the military to launch his fashion company and designed scarves, swimwear, and other accessories. Known for making clothing from stretchy, sleek, tight-fitting fabric, Pucci is most famous for his bold prints, which feature colorful patterns.
Sui had officially arrived on the New York fashion scene. Orders flooded in, and soon, she was busy putting on more shows and making plans to expand her business. In her Newsweek essay, she attributed the success of that initial show, “one of the giant breakthroughs of my career,” to some good luck: “It was a case of being in the right place at the right time. ” Sui’s success did lead to the severing of some relationships, though.
